City Ordinances and Reminders

ORDINANCE 3-7 DOG AND CAT LICENSING requires that all dogs and cats kept in the Town of St. Ignatius shall be licensed.  Licenses are available from Doctor Castor or at Town Hall (open Monday-Thursday 9A.M. to 1P.M.) and expire on March 31 each year. A license for an unspayed or unneutered dog or cat costs $10/year. A license for a spayed or neutered dog or cat costs $5/year. Proof of current rabies vaccination must be provided for all dogs older than 4 months.

No more than 3 dogs and 3 cats shall reside at a residence. No dog shall be permitted to run at large within the Town of St. Ignatius at any time. Any dog without a proper license found running at large at any time within St. Ignatius may be forthwith disposed of.

Any dog with a proper license found running at large will be impounded for 72 hours to allow the owner the chance to recover the dog unless the dog has been determined to be dangerous. After 72 hours the dog may be euthanized.

The normal bond for the first conviction of violating any provision of this ordinance is $50; however, any person found violating any provision of this ordinance can be fined up to $500 and/or sentenced to 6 months in jail.

ORDINANCE 6-1 WATER AND SEWER ORDINANCE prohibits watering with open hoses by any user on the Town’s water system. All sprinkling must be with a nozzle. Sprinkling is only allowed between 6 a.m. and 10 a.m. each day and between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. each day.

The normal bond for the first conviction of violating any provision of this ordinance is $50.00.

ORDINANCE 5-2 JUNK & ABANDONED VEHICLES prohibits any junk or abandoned vehicle to remain in the Town limits for more than 5 days. A junk vehicle is a discarded, ruined, wrecked or dismantled motor vehicle which is not lawfully and validly licensed or which is inoperative or incapable of being driven. An abandoned vehicle is a motor vehicle, either operative or inoperative, which is left unattended for more than a 48-hour period.

The normal bond for the first conviction of violating any provision of this ordinance is $50.00.

KEEPING PROPERTY CLEAN: It is the duty of property owners and renters to keep premises free of litter, rubbish, garbage and un-kept foliage, including, but not limited to weeds and uncut grass. Persons whose properties face municipal sidewalks and streets are responsible for keeping that portion of the sidewalks and streets adjacent to their property free of garbage, litter and rubbish. It is the duty of every owner of vacant property to keep that property free of litter, rubbish, garbage and un-kept foliage, including, but not limited to weeds and uncut grass.

The normal bond for the first conviction of violating any provision of this ordinance is $50.00.

 

ORDINANCE 5-3 REGULATING OPEN BURNING permits open burning within the Town limits from

March 1 through April 30 and from September through October 31 of each year. Allowable materials are only those that would be considered yard waste. Hauling burnable materials in from other properties is strictly prohibited. Open burning must begin no earlier than 6:00 a.m. and must be completely extinguished, including smoke and embers, by 8:00 p.m. the same day and must be continuously attended. Streets and alleys shall not be used for open burning except as conducted by appropriate public officials.
